HAMILTON’S
Reserve a seat on the terrace and take in the Christiansted views at the upscale Hamilton’s. Housed in a historic downtown building, the restaurant is named for two former St. Croix residents — United States founding father Alexander Hamilton and David Hamilton Jackson, a labor and civil rights advocate — two men who were public servants in every sense of the word, putting the public before themselves. This mindset and way of serving speaks to Hamilton’s philosophy of “Service First.” The specialty here is steak and seafood, creatively prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Try the saffron-spiced bouillabaisse spiked with mussels, clams, mahi and shrimp. Or select the blackened filet mignon draped in a classic Bordelaise sauce. Don’t miss the craft cocktails, such as The Hamilton Paloma mixed with tequila and house-made pamplemousse liqueur infused with pink grapefruit.
CIBONÉ
Wild-caught seafood is the signature of Ciboné, a quaint little restaurant tucked away on King Street in Frederiksted. Dine inside the cozy restaurant or take a patio seat in the charming outdoor courtyard. Begin with the steamed mussels or crab cakes. Recommended entrees include the lamb chops glazed with teriyaki sauce or the rich lobster alfredo. For dessert, try the locally loved rum cake.
THE LANDING BEACH BAR
Kick back and enjoy the ocean breeze in the open-air dining room at The Landing Beach Bar. Located on Cane Bay Beach, The Landing is the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat after spending the day on the water. The restaurant offers casual fare like seared blackened tuna bites served with chipotle-aioli dipping sauce, and mahi fish ‘n’ chips coated in a Leatherback Brewing Co. beer batter. An extensive drink menu includes the can’t-miss Win Zinger — bush tea that’s made by The Landing’s owner, Win, and mixed with local Mutiny Island Vodka. Live music is featured Wednesday through Saturday.
EL SOL BAR & RESTAURANT
Authentic Caribbean foods are the specialty at El Sol Bar & Restaurant, a tidy little restaurant that offers indoor and outdoor dining, as well as to-go orders. Choose from seasonal conch or octopus stewed in garlic butter sauce. Pot fish and kingfish can be prepared fried or stewed. There’s also a large selection of USDA Choice steaks, including porterhouse and Delmonico. Sides include rice and beans, mofongo, tostones and sweet plantains. Order a drink from the bar or sip a glass of passion fruit juice. For dessert, try the tangy lemon cake.
SIX NINE RESTAURANT & BAR
Plan an evening of fine dining at Six Nine Restaurant & Bar, a lovely restaurant located in an intimate Frederiksted courtyard. Sit on the covered patio illuminated by string lights to soak in the beachy vibe. The rotating French-Italian menu is fully gluten-free. Dishes may include a fresh ceviche of the day, mahi nestled atop creamy risotto or filet mignon with butter-poached shrimp. Choose a glass from the extensive wine list or try a cocktail mixed with Caribbean rum. Six Nine also hosts Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas.
BREW STX
Located on the Christiansted Boardwalk, Brew STX is a delightful combination restaurant and microbrewery. Stake out a seat with a harbor view in this two-story venue that serves upscale pub fare. Start with the popular crispy Brussels sprouts (tossed with lemon, parmesan and citrus aioli) or the house-made hummus plate. Handhelds include grilled or beer-battered mahi tacos, while dinner entrees range from pan-seared lemon salmon to Cajun pasta dotted with shrimp and Andouille sausage. Side your meal with a pint of house brew like the Boardwalk Blonde.
SHUPE’S ON THE BOARDWALK
Also found on the Christiansted Boardwalk is Shupe’s on the Boardwalk. This casual waterfront eatery is known for its ice-cold beers and freshly ground, build-your-own burgers that can be topped with bleu cheese, bacon, grilled mushrooms and more. Shupe’s also offers crispy chicken sandwiches and wings (try the BBQ or Buffalo versions). The truffle parmesan hand-cut fries make the perfect accompaniment. For dessert, try one of the daily changing puffy pie selections.
AMA AT CANE BAY
AMA at Cane Bay offers St. Croix oceanfront dining at its finest, with some tables situated just steps from the water’s edge. This sustainable seafood restaurant works with local farmers, as well as environmentally responsible fishermen and divers, to source ingredients for its menu. Shared plates range from spicy mussels in a ginger-coconut curry broth to a cheese board of chef-selected fromage served with house pickles, apple-rum butter and candied walnuts. Mains include almond-crusted mahi sided with sweet potato mash, curried cauliflower and mango chutney. Enjoy your meal with a glass of fine wine or a craft cocktail.
TOO.CHEZ RESTAURANT + BAR
Located in a historic 1750s building in downtown Christiansted, Too.Chez Restaurant + Bar serves French-influenced dishes with an American twist. Sit outside in the beautiful courtyard and start with the baked brie served with caramelized apples, onion jam and homemade crostini. Reserve a seat in the romantic candlelit courtyard, surrounded by carved stone walls. Order an appetizer like the shrimp pot stickers with wasabi aioli and sweet soy glaze or the chargrilled baby calamari.
