How to Get to Honeymoon Beach

Honeymoon Beach on St. John offers a sense of escape in the U.S. Virgin Islands, rewarding visitors who make the relatively easy journey there with minimal crowds, excellent amenities and the rhythm of waves lapping at the shore. Arrive by dinghy rental or small chartered vessel, or hike directly to its famed white sands and turquoise waters. Visitors arriving by car, taxi or Caneel Beach Club shuttle will have a short walk.

For hikers, begin at the Cruz Bay Visitor Center and take the Lind Point Trail to Solomon and Honeymoon beaches. Follow the signs and detour on various spurs as you view boats bobbing in the bay. Plan to spend around 20–40 minutes depending on your pace and picture-taking priorities at the Cruz Bay Overlook detour. The Lind Point Trail is narrow and rocky, so use caution. Honeymoon Beach has food and drink concessions — and beach chair rentals make it easy to travel light without hauling gear in.

Things to Do

Honeymoon Beach in Virgin Islands National Park is like stepping into a postcard. Recline and peek through your sandaled feet to a stretch of bright sand that meets impossibly blue waters. Trees border the area, affording all-day beachgoers shaded spots for lounging.

Snorkelers can wade into the clear waters between Honeymoon Beach and Caneel Bay, where the sunlight pierces the surface to reveal a narrow reef inhabited by diverse corals, including brain, lettuce leaf and elkhorn. In the rocky shallows, you’ll drift past towering pillar corals and dense thickets of finger coral — natural fortresses that provide shelter for schools of fish.

Rent snorkeling gear, kayaks or chairs at the Virgin Islands Ecotours store, where ice cream and island novelties await. The company also provides a five-hour guided snorkeling and kayaking tour that departs from Mongoose Junction on St. John, with a picnic lunch at Honeymoon Beach.

For a truly luxurious day, Caneel Bay Beach Club rents cabanas with a dedicated server for cocktails and nibbles, chaise lounges and towels.
