TAKE OFF ON AN Outdoor Adventure

Outdoor adventures beckon in USVI, offering many ways to explore our natural world. Choose a hiking trail and be transported to a magical world of towering palms, flitting sugarbirds and scampering mongooses. Hike 18th-century plantation ruins and discover petroglyphs that date back to 900 A.D. Be wowed by picture-perfect views from a zipline or on horseback. And get out on our beautiful turquoise waters and go sailing, paddling, parasailing, snorkeling or diving.

Hiking

St. John

The Virgin Islands National Park on St. John is a hiker’s paradise, with 20-plus trails ranging from flat and short to challenging — all with views of blue bays and green islands. See sights that can only be reached on foot, most notably ancient rock carvings called petroglyphs.

Ziplining

St. Croix

Our steep hills are perfect for high-flying adventures. Tree Limin’ Extreme Zipline on St. Thomas features incredible views of Magens Bay and offshore cays. At St. Croix’s Carambola Zipline, a 200-foot vertical drop takes you some 2,500 feet across lush Carambola Valley.

Horseback Riding

St. Croix

St. Croix’s less-mountainous terrain is perfect for exploring on horseback, and several companies offer rides along the beach or in upland pastures. On St. John, the animal rescue Carolina’s Corral features rides on a coral-strewn beach and up a trail to see a great view of Coral Bay and islands in the distance.

Scuba Diving

St. Thomas

Scuba diving is a great way to explore our mesmerizing underwater world. Try a Discover Scuba Diving session that doesn’t require certification or get certified before you arrive in the territory. All three islands feature excellent dive centers.

Sailing

St. Thomas

Harnessing the power of the trade winds and the waves to cross our spectacular waters is a heady challenge. But you can learn to captain a sailboat in one of the world’s greatest sailing destinations at several schools, most based on St. Thomas. Some incorporate lessons in tandem with a cruise through the islands.

Parasailing

Float hundreds of feet in the air beneath a colorful parachute cloud, towed by a power boat zooming through the ocean. You won’t even get wet, and will be amazed by the unequaled island and water views. All three islands have parasail companies that will get you aloft in no time.

Off-Road Driving

St. John

Tackle unpaved roads and explore remote areas of eastern St. John and St. Croix in a four-wheel-drive, Jeep-style vehicle. This rugged off-road vehicle will allow you to reach less-populated bays and beaches, where you’ll be rewarded with jaw-dropping views.
