Where to swim with turtles on St. John: start in the seagrass. Maho Bay is one of the most consistent places, with broad, shallow seagrass beds. Francis Bay is wide and often less crowded. Turtles are possible at Honeymoon Beach, particularly around the seagrass areas, and Scott Beach is quieter, with strong sightings when conditions are right. Nothing is guaranteed, but turtles are around year-round, and early mornings are often calmer. Once you are in the water: do not touch a turtle, do not chase or follow one closely, and do not block its path to the surface. Keep your fins controlled so you do not kick coral or stir up sand, and stay still to let it pass. Read our full guide to swimming with sea turtles on St. John.
