Meet St. Thomas’ Pink-Sand Beach: A Guide to Smith Bay Park & Lindquist Beach
Known officially as Smith Bay Park and unofficially as Lindquist, Secret Sands or pink-sand beach, this hidden gem on the northeast side of St. Thomas goes by many names but offers the same reward: calm aquamarine water, a blush-toned shoreline and some of the island’s clearest snorkeling.
About the Pink-Sand Beach on St. Thomas
Often described as St. Thomas’ “best-kept secret,” Lindquist Beach is famous for its ethereal, rosy glow. Its subtle pink hue likely comes from tiny fragments of coral and shell mixed into the sand — a natural variation in beach composition unique to tropical coastal environments. Tucked away on the east end between Cabes and Coki points, this local favorite offers a no-fuss, refreshing escape from the crowds with easy-access snorkeling, laid-back beach days and colorful sunsets.
Things to Do at Smith Bay Park
Smith Bay Park is an ideal spot for a rest day or vacation selfies because of its minimal crowds. If you’re looking to explore beneath the surface in the USVI’s famous clear waters, this beach offers great opportunities for snorkeling, though you will need to bring your own gear as it’s not provided. Scour the bay’s calm waters for stingrays, sea turtles and colorful schools of fish weaving in formation. Onshore, the occasional rooster is known to mingle with beachgoers.
Bring your own lunch if you plan to stay; there are shaded picnic tables but no food or drink vendors. If you need a break or something to eat, hop into your car (parking passes are good for the entire day) and head to nearby Island Fusion Cuisine for lunch. This family-owned restaurant is known for serving authentic Caribbean fare like yellowtail smothered in Creole fish sauce.
