VOLUNTEER TO HELP PETS WITH WINGS

Travelers to USVI can make a difference and help the important animal rescue efforts of Pets with Wings. Working in concert with the Humane Society of St. Thomas and surrounding island communities, the nonprofit Pets with Wings transports animals in need to rescue groups, shelters and adopters on the U.S. mainland.

Travelers can volunteer to transport a dog or cat with them to their home destination. Pets with Wings handles all of the logistics, such as completing the necessary travel paperwork (including adding furry companions to flight reservations) and paying for the animal’s travel fee. Once a travel volunteer is identified, Pets with Wings makes contact with a stateside rescue organization in their destination area to arrange for the animal’s intake.

Pets with Wings makes the animal escort process stress-free. A Pets with Wings team member meets the travel volunteer at the airport with the animal and assists with the check-in process. The volunteer is given a pet travel kit with necessary information and supplies for the animal. Animals are transported either in cargo or on the plane with a ticketed passenger.

Once the volunteer reaches their destination, a representative from Pets with Wings’ rescue partner meets them to take possession of the animal. With the volunteer’s permission, their travel adventure with their furry companion will be posted on the Pets with Wings Facebook page.
