U.S. Virgin Islands Division of Festivals Celebrates 2026 St. Thomas Carnival Honorees

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (April 27, 2026) – The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism and Division of Festivals proudly announce the 2026 St. Thomas Carnival honorees, each recognized for their lasting contributions to Virgin Islands culture and community. This year’s honorees include the Traditional Indians as Adult Parade Honoree, Junior Huggins as Food Fair Honoree, Charming Twirlers Majorettes as Children’s Parade Honoree, and Imagination Brass as Village Honoree.

“This year’s honorees reflect the heart and soul of our culture, each playing a meaningful role in preserving and sharing the traditions that define the Virgin Islands,” said Jennifer Matarangas-King, Commissioner of Tourism. “Carnival is a powerful celebration of who we are, and we are proud to recognize those whose passion and dedication continue to keep our heritage alive.”

Adult Parade Honoree: The Traditional Indians

For generations, the Traditional Indians have been a defining presence in St. Thomas Carnival, preserving cultural traditions rooted in the Caribbean’s early Taíno heritage. Guided by the enduring theme “We Are Family,” the troupe honors the legacy of elders whose dedication laid the foundation for its continued success. More than a parade group, the Traditional Indians represent a living cultural expression, one that brings together music, movement, and storytelling through the powerful rhythm of the drums. From Carnival parades to cultural festivals across the Virgin Islands, their presence remains essential to the spirit and authenticity of the celebration.

Children’s Parade Honoree: Charming Twirlers Majorettes

Since 1985, the Charming Twirlers Majorettes have grown into one of the Virgin Islands’ most vibrant and impactful youth organizations. Founded by Migdalia Feliciano, the group has empowered generations of young women through discipline, mentorship, and performance. What began as a small group has evolved into a multigenerational sisterhood, known for its dynamic routines and signature red and gold presence across Carnival celebrations. Beyond the parade route, the organization fosters confidence, leadership, and cultural pride, representing the Virgin Islands on stages both locally and internationally.

Food Fair Honoree: Junior Huggins

For nearly two decades, Junior Huggins has been a dedicated presence at the St. Thomas Carnival Food Fair, contributing to the cultural richness and community spirit that define this cherished tradition. Since 2007, his continued participation has helped make the Food Fair a vibrant gathering place for Virgin Islands heritage and cuisine. A proud military veteran, Huggins honorably served for 29 years in the Virgin Islands National Guard. He’s also an active member of the St. Thomas–St. John Horse Owners Association, reflecting his longstanding passion for the local equestrian community. Through his service and community involvement, Junior Huggins embodies the spirit of Carnival and the traditions that bring the USVI together in celebration.

Village Honoree: Imagination Brass

For more than five decades, Imagination Brass (affectionately known as Imagi) has been a driving force in Caribbean music and Carnival culture. Born in Frenchtown, St. Thomas, the band has grown from a small group of musicians into an internationally recognized ensemble known for its bold, melodic brass sound. Blending genres such as soca, calypso, reggae, and rhythm and blues, Imagi has helped shape the musical identity of the Virgin Islands while inspiring generations of performers. With decades of performances, recordings, and collaborations with legendary artists, their legacy continues to resonate as a powerful soundtrack to Carnival and Caribbean life.

In addition, the Department of Tourism extends special recognition to Elskoe & Associates, named the 2025 Parade Best Floupe, for their outstanding creativity and contribution to the visual artistry of Carnival.

“The 2026 honorees continue a proud tradition of recognizing the individuals and groups who play a vital role in shaping our cultural identity,” said Ian Turnbull, Director of Festivals. “We are honored to celebrate those who contribute to the legacy of St. Thomas Carnival and help keep our traditions strong.”
