The U.S. Virgin Islands celebrates two major print features in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition with VIP and Consumer events, and Rideshare partnership

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (May 23, 2022) - In celebration of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue debut, the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) Department of Tourism partnered with Sports Illustrated for their three-day celebrations from Thursday, May 19 through Saturday, May 21 in NYC and Hollywood, Florida just in time for swimsuit season.

The week’s event included a NYC VIP launch party on Thursday, May 19 with performance by Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover Model and singer, Ciara. During the NYC event, the U.S. Virgin Islands kicked off their partnership with Carvertise, the nation’s leading rideshare advertising company, to deploy a fleet of 20 rideshare vehicles, each fully-wrapped with stunning beach scenes from the destination’s three islands— St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas – to swarm the area surrounding the event. The partnership will continue in NYC for two months to inspire travel to the region.

On Friday, May 20 through Saturday, May 21, the USVI Department of Tourism activated at the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit events at the Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. Bringing a piece of America’s Paradise to Florida, the tourism board covered the events with branding, signage, dancers and music.

We want to reach new consumers where they are and with the impact and influence Sports Illustrated has, we felt it was the perfect collaboration on the intersection of sports, lifestyle and travel”, says Joe Boschulte, Commissioner of Tourism.

The Islands of St. Croix and St. Thomas were featured in the 2022 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition featuring models Camille Kostek, Kamie Crawford and WNBA athletes Didi Richards, Breanna Stewart, Nneka Ogwumike, Sue Bird, and Te’a Cooper, following their respective photoshoots in St. Croix and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
