Each island has a multitude of activities for you to enjoy. Here are some suggestions for your visit.
Experience the influence and history of seven different colonial powers in both the towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted. Visit the forts in town or learn of the sugar cane days at the Estate Whim Plantation Museum. Take a tour of the world-famous Cruzan Rum Distillery and try some of the island’s exceptionally smooth rum! Be sure to make a stop at a local eatery to sample kallaloo, stewed mutton and johnnycakes.
St. Croix offers some of the best scuba sites in the Caribbean. Experience the numerous wrecks, reefs and wall dives this island has to offer. Certified professional dive masters will lead you through the waters to discover turtles, sea horses and coral reefs teeming with life. Not a scuba diver? Schedule a “resort course” with one of the local dive operators and you will be diving after a few brief lessons.
Catch a sailboat out to Buck Island Reef National Monument. This 176-acre island is the perfect sanctuary for a snorkel or picnic. Take a calm kayaking tour of the Salt River Bay National Park & Ecological Preserve. Or relax on one of St. Croix’s many gorgeous beaches.
Experienced hiking guides lead you along canopied trails stopping momentarily to sample local fruit, discuss the medicinal value of shrubbery and chat about the history of the area. If you prefer to ride, go on horseback through the rainforest or take a jeep tour to the amazing Annaly Bay tidal pool.
Stroll the quaint shopping districts along the water’s edge to discover original artwork, handmade jewelry, mahogany pieces and other island-made souvenirs.
